Paladin Week – Draynee Love

WoWScrnShot_091812_200612

It’s Paladin Week over at Lae’s Alt Appreciation!  I don’t really have any alts or mains, I sorta play whoever strikes me when I log in, but I definitely didn’t want to miss this opportunity to gush over my paladin.  Draynee was my first alliance character, as I was a Hordie when I first started.  The story behind her making her is a little funny.  I had a falling out with a good friend I used to twink PVP with (back before twinks had their own battlegrounds).  I was pretty upset about it, and decided to make an alliance character on our battlegroup in hopes of running into him in the lowbie bg’s.  I chose draenei because I thought the noises they made when they get hit were kind of ridiculous.  I picked Draynee as her name, based on how I originally thought ‘draenei’ was pronounced (I was informed it was ‘dray-nigh’).  So, that’s how my love affair with space goats started.  I never did run into that person in the bg’s, as he quit playing before I got to level 39.  The good news is we are friends again, although he still doesn’t play WoW.  I ended up ditching the original Draynee to re-roll on Proudmoore after discussing possible future Alliance play with my husband, we wanted to pick a pretty high-pop server.  I’m glad I did, since dabbling in the blue side turned into a full-time affair, and Proudmoore’s a great server 😀

So, before I get to the mog goodness, I thought I’d update you guys on why I haven’t posted a whole heck of a lot lately.  If you don’t already, you should follow me on Twitter!  I post updates over there all the time.  Even if you don’t use Twitter, you can click on the link over to the left and see what I’m up to, without an account 🙂  Anyhow, I mentioned it before, but I’ve been working pretty much every day on my Draynee cosplay for Blizzcon!  I’m going in her purple Judgement/Revenant set.  This is my first cosplay, and pretty much first time ‘building’ anything, so there has been some challenges.  It’s coming together though, and I’m getting pretty excited about it!  I’ll probably post some tutorials later, after I get all the pieces finished, but here’s some sneak peeks!

shoulder

Here’s my almost-finished Judgement shoulder.  I still need to add some details, but I think it’s pretty cool!  At first I attempted to carve this out of expanding foam like the amazingly talented Kamui, but I am not an sculpture artist.  So plan #2 that my husband found for me was to use the Pepakura program to print out the parts for a 3d model, which I made out of posterboard.  Then I added a few layers of glue and brown paper, and sprayed the inside with the expanding foam for structure.

despair

This is Despair, all ready for priming and painting.  The sword is a mix of Pepakura parts, floral foam pieces, and some expanding foam.  The handle is a paper towel roll filled with expanding foam and a wood dowel for strength!  The weeks until Blizzcon are getting shorter, so I expect to be working even more on this, but fear not draenei enthusiasts, I’m still around and the blog’s not going anywhere!  Just might be on a crafting hiatus until after November 😉

Now, on to some mogs!  Draynee only has a few mogs in her collection.  It’s pretty much the reason I started the blog.  I was coming up with some great looks, but only wanted to really wear a couple.  She went wild and wore the Golden Valorous mog for a few months, but she’s back to purple judgement now as inspiration to get this cosplay done!

The cloak in the header picture is Silky Velvet Cloak

This mog is probably the second one I put together.  I’ve heard it referred to as an Alliance soldier mog, but the tabard is just there because I liked how the colors go together, and it covers up the corset.  I use it sometimes for a tanking set, when I get the wild urge to actually tank, lol!

I originally put this last mog together for my death knight, but it was just too bright for her, it didn’t feel right.  It works much better as a holy pally mog!  It’s a pretty popular look, but I still love it 🙂

Whew, well that was a long post, I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at my favorite paladin, Draynee!

Alt Appreciation – Death Knight Week

Laeleiweyn over at World of Lae has started an Alt Appreciation series, and this week is Death Knight Week!  What a fun idea!  Since it’s all about showing your alt’s some love, I’m going to veer off the Draenei path for a moment and show some appreciation for my former main, now a much-neglected alt.

Lideyviah

Lideyviah was the second character I made when I started playing WoW.  My first toon was a hunter that I leveled up by following my husband around, lol.  At the time he played a Death Knight, and he’s pretty cool, so I wanted one too.  I leveled her up all on my own, and that’s when I really got hooked on the game.  She was my main for a very long time.  I raided with her, did every achievement possible, and hit exalted with as many reps as I could.  Lid was actually my first 90 in Pandaria, but I wasn’t really feeling playing melee anymore, and I haven’t really touched her since.  I’ve thought about transferring her over to a draenei, but I don’t think I ever really could.  She’s pretty special to me, and even if I don’t play her, I’m content with her staying just as she is.  I visit her every once in a while and have warm fuzzy feelings 😉

Here’s a Lid-inspired mog!  This is one of my favorite swords in the game, I loved dual-wielding these back in the old days 😉

Mini Mog Post – Blood DK Set

blood_dk

While going through the plate chestpieces for the Mog Companion site, I was introduced to the beauty of the Sunwell plate items.  I’d never really noticed how neat they look, and this piece instantly made me think of the death knight Heroic Tier 10 set.  Since all the pieces are available as look-alike pieces, any plate class could wear this look, but it seems like the perfect Blood DK outfit to me 🙂

The pieces from this outfit are a little more difficult to get than what I normally like to feature.  The shoulders, waist and boots are from heroic 25-man ICC, and the legs are from Firelands.  If your guild’s not into running old raids, you can always look for a cross-realm group on OpenRaid, or through Twitterland Raiding.

Valorous Golden Paladin Transmog

tree

After weeks and weeks and weeks of making Lightning Steel Ingots, I finally got my Lionheart Executioner, Reborn made!  With gearing being so tedious this expansion, I haven’t really focused on any of my characters’ iLevel in months.  This weapon is actually the highest level item I have on any of my 5 90’s, lol!  So, I thought it only fitting that I make a mog for such an epic sword.  This mog is not that mog, but something else I put together while browsing MogIt 😀  I liked it so much, I actually went farming for the gear.  Draynee hasn’t really had a new mog since I set her up with that fantastic pink and purple look right after mogging came out!

I was looking through chest-pieces and something about the Phantom Armor was speaking to me.  After staring at for awhile, I noticed the small aqua accents on the back.  They reminded me of the Paladin tier 7 set, and an outfit was born!

Here’s the look with an awesome mace I’d love to have, but I don’t think I can 2-man heroic 25 ICC yet 😉

Shoulder – Valorous Redmption Spaulders

Chest – Phantom Armor

Hands – Valorous Redemption Gloves

Waist – Girdle of Unity

Legs – Inscribed Legplates of the Aldor

Feet – Poignant Sabatons

Mace – Cryptmaker

belt
One of these days I’ll have to slug it out in PVP long enough to get this belt!  I know paladins have been asking to carry around their Librams on their waist forever, so this belt being a nod to that is awesome.

5.2 Troll Gear Re-releases

When the troll raids Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman were revamped as 5-man dungeons in Cataclysm, much of the of the original gear was either removed, or recolored for the updated loot tables.  Since this was before transmog, not many people had the old gear hanging around.  Blizzard seems to be keyed into how much people love to mog old sets though, and they have brought these back with the introduction of the Isle of Thunder!  All of these items drop off of mobs on the island, and except for the Corroded Hacker, they are all BOE, so check out your local auction house if you’re not able to visit the new dailies hub yet.  I really love this idea of re-introducing removed gear as random green drops.  I’m keeping my finger crossed that the old Scholomance and Scarlet Monastery gear re-appears soon.  In the mean time, check out these fly sets

This set actually comes with a dress whose model is already in game.
Since the pants and gloves are new, I wanted to show the off here.

For more info, check out wowhead’s write up of all the drops.  There are a ton more
weapons, a red and purple recolor of the Amani Regalia, and some pieces that were
missing from recolors of other sets.

Replica Lightforge Looks

Bakaknight2

I spotted this mog awhile ago and just fell in love!  I took a screenie for Fly Draenei Friday, but it’s so great, it needed it’s own post 😀  The colors are so striking, and I thought pairing the Lightforge pieces with those legs and boots was awesome!  After doing some mogs with the Replica Soulforge set, I was excited to try a few with this set.

Bakaknight is wearing Drake Talon Pauldrons with Replica Lightforge Breastplate, Gauntlets and Belt, Legplates of Blazing Light and Magma Tempered Boots.  I believe the mace on her right hip is either Bloodskull Destroyer or Swiftsteel Bludgeon.  Looks great Baka, thanks for the inspiration!

Here’s a few variations I came up with!

lightforge shoulders

Shoulders – Replica Lightforge Spaulders

Chest – Replica Lightforge Breastplate

Hands – Replica Lightforge Gauntlets

Waist – Hyperion Girdl

Legs – Legplates of Blazing Light

Feet – Magma Tempered Boots

Boots of the Redeemed Prophecy might also look nice,
and pick up more of the red in the look.

This Post is Bananas!

My  friend Ultros calls these the ‘Paladin Banana Shoulders’! wowhead

I had never used twitter before having my blog, and I thought joining it would be a great way to connect with other bloggers  I was right about that!  I love chatting with other WoW bloggers, you-tubers and podcasters over there.  I’ve made a few ‘twitter pals’, and one of those is the amazing Joe (@wowmartiean).  He does awesome videos, and recently launched his own site wowmartiean.com.  We were talking one day about him blogging on his site when this happened:

I can’t get the thought about a banana post out of my head!  Joe’s going through some RL stuff, so now seems like a great time for bananas and to give my bud a shout-out!  Head over to his site and check out his vids, and if you love them like I do, he’s got a donate button there too 🙂

Now, about those bananas!  I was really surprised at how many banana-related things there are in game!

From wowhead

One of my favorites is The Golden Banana, which is a quest reward from Krasarang Wilds.  You can use it to throw a banana on the ground!  It’s one of those great useless, yet fun items introduced in Mists.

Another super-fun Mists item is the Magic Banana.  It drops from a rare in Valley of the Four Winds names Bonobos .  What an awesome title.  You can use this item to toss a banana that will make another player slip and fall on their bootay.  Here’s a video of it – hilarious!

From wowhead

If you’re bananas over battle pets, this cute little guy’s name is Bananas.  He is a companion pet from the Trading Card game.  One of his pet battle abilities is Banana Barrage, which is cool, but I wonder where he keeps all those bananas to hurl…

From wowhead

Finally, if you’re a little hungry after looking at all those ‘nana picutres, you can always pick up some Soft Banana Bread and wash it down with a Banana Cocktail.  If those don’t satisfy, you can pick up some Tel’Abim Bananas and make Banana Infused Rum with the leftovers!  The Banana Infused Rum is made with a Way of the Brew recipie and requires 600 skill in that Way, but it sounds way worth all of the crazy ingredients, as it turns you into a Hozen Pirate for 30 seconds!

Well, I hope you enjoyed my silly look at banana things, and I hope you can check out Joe’s vids.  I know he appreciates everyone who does 🙂

Replica Soulforge Mogs

dreynie

After approximately 8,473 runs of the Ring of Law in BRD, I finally got Anub’shiah to relenquish his chestpiece to me and finish this mog I’ve been messing around with for months!  It’s gone through several itterations, and originally started as something different for my pally to wear.  I really wanted to use this slimmer version of the Revenant gloves, but since they are from a Hellfire Peninsula quest, I sadly no longer had them for Draynee.  Good thing I kept every piece of gear I got while leveling my warrior!  Since the Darkmoon Faire was in town this past weekend, I got to farming.

The chestpiece I wanted to use is most commonly known as the Saltstone Surcoat, which is BOE world drop with about a 0.1% drop rate.  There was one on my auction house for 4,000 gold.  I decided to try my luck with the same model drop out of BRD.  With 6 random bosses, all with random loot, farming a piece of gear from the Ring of Law is not any easy task.  It took me about 4 days of doing the 5 runs per hour each chance I got.  If anyone is looking for this, or another piece from here, my best advice is just to keep at it!  Perseverance pays off 😀

Purple Death Knight Mog

This mog is pretty similar to what my Blood Elf DK is wearing, but everything looks better on Draenei 🙂  The outfit is based around pieces from Death Knight Tier 10.  ICC was the peak of raiding for me, and I have great memories of running around in my ‘Arthas’ outfit.

Hey, Can We Talk About that Shield?

Trying to find a shield to go with Draynee’s blue look, I was originally thinking of getting the Royal Crest of Lordaeron, but it’s just so big.  A quick trip through the sheilds available with MogIt revealed the perfect blue solution, the Mazthoril Honor Shield.  This sheild is really so awesome it could go with anything, though.  It shoots fire for cryin’ out loud!!  The normal animation is a light blue smoke coming from the dragon’s mouth, but about once a minute it threatens to catch your tail on fire.  There is also a red version, the Dragonheart Flameshield, that drops from Nightbane in Karazhan.  More shields on Azeroth should do cool things like breath fire.  They are always just there, hanging out on your back, being boring.  Thank the titans for transmog.  Or the devs, whatever.

Now, I know that the blue of the shield is not really the same as the rest of the templar outfit, so if you’re looking for something a little more matchy, the Jouster’s set is perfect.  I’ve told Draynee she should have bought that outfit instead, but she is an impulse shopper…

Shoulders – Imperial Plate Shoulders
Chest –  Jouster’s Chestplate
Hands – Jouster’s Gauntlets
Waist – Jouster’s Girdle
Legs –  Jouster’s Legplates
Feet – Jouster’s Greaves
Shield – Mazthoril Honor Shield
Mace – Crystal Spire of Karabor
