Fly Draenei at the Mogolympics

The Transmogolympics may have ended, but they will live on forever in our hearts! Lol, ok that was super cheesy, but I couldn’t think of a good opener for this post.

I finally got a chance to check out everyone’s entries to the Mogolympics over at JD’s awesome site – “The Official Home of the Transmog Games“. There were so many amazing entries, all I can say is ‘Wow!’.

I’m sure no explanation is needed as to why, I decided to make a slideshow of all the Fly Draenei that were in the Mogolympics. Not every faction had a Draenei representative, but that is ok, because some factions had more than one!

Here’s just a few of my Super Fly favorites.  It was really hard to only pick out a few, but otherwise this could go on for days.  Now I really know how the judges felt!

This wrestler representing Darnassus cant help but
be fly in that Zebra pimp hat!  He is a Draenei even
professional wrestlers wouldn’t want to mess with.

This fencing entry from the Earthen Ring is really stunning.
The gold and silver with pops of green is well done.

The Illidari’s Cycling entrant made excellent
use of the Pillager’s Leggings.  Not very attractive
as a full set, but coordinated with the silver and
brown pieces, they look very nice.

The Sunreavers picked an excellent entrant for the
wrestling tournament.  This Draenei is super scary,
in a badass wrestler way.  You can see by his score he
even put the fear in someone as fly as Mr. Pimp Hat.

Mogolympics Wrap-up

Well, the end has finally arrived.  The Closing Ceremonies to the Transmogolympics were today.  That was one hell of an amazing contest!  I, however, am speechless.  Or perhaps, I have too many words, but here it goes:

I am honored, shocked, amazed, surprised, grateful, ecstatic, humbled, and blown away:

I won the Mogolympics, and it is just so cool!  All the competitors did such an amazing job, and I’m so appreciative of each and every one of my medals.  I had so much fun with the challenges presented in creating the outfits.  A big CONGRATS! to all the other winners.   I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to JD for setting the whole contest up, I hope he doesn’t get sick of hearing it, lol.  I also want to thank the other three judges, the mountain of entries they had to go through would have made lesser women run and hide :D.

As if he hasn’t already done enough, JD has set up an official Transmogolympics website to feature all of the competitor’s outfit by faction, and includes wowhead links for each look.  You can also get an idea of just how close every competition was, as he’s included each entry’s score.

I have also set up a page for all my Mogolympic entries, just for funsies 🙂

In week 3, we saw the final three events, Fencing, Freestyle, and Equestrian.

The first event of the week was Fencing. My little entrant proved gnomes aren’t just for punting around, and she’ll challenge anyone who tries!

The challenge for this event was to build an outfit around a one-handed sword.  I decided to literally make a fencer for this.  When I finally got all the pieces picked and matched perfectly, I fell in love with her.  Honestly, I put all my hopes and dreams into her.  I thought “if I can only win one event, I know it will be her”.   Not only did she bring home the gold, I found out in the closing ceremonies she got the highest, almost-perfect score for any entry of 39.5.  Gnome Powah!!!!  I sorta wish I hadn’t deleted my gnome warlock so she could wear this, it does not look as awesome on Draenei :/

The second event of the week was Freestyle.  This event was an opportunity to really show off some creativity, and the competitors really brought their ‘A’ game.

The challenge here was to build your own npc.  Here was the text I sent to go along with my entry:

My Freestyle NPC is a sheep farmer, who has moved in with Agee Tyler in his little cottage north of Stormwind. Despite their obvious height difference, they get along well, as Agee spends most of his days sitting in front of the fire and doesn’t have much to say.

I discovered the little cottage only a week or so before the contest was announced and I knew I wanted to use it.   I had debated on my character being a few different things, but decided the farmer fit the scene best.  The other npc idea I had was someone who could reassign you old quest chains in exchange for transmog-only pieces that were the original quest rewards.  That one didn’t really pan out, so farmer Drayney it was 🙂

The last event to be held was the Equestrian.  It was a rainy day in Hillsbrad Foothills, but the competitors were out in full horse, err… force.

The challenge for this round was to build an outfit to compliment one of the horse mounts.  I originally started with Tyrael’s Charger, but I’m glad I gave up on that because the Silver winner who did build around that horse did an incredible job.  So, my entry was based on the Felsteed.  My baby warlock Zzyzx was a great entrant for this.  I had a hard time picking a belt for the look.  I settled on one that was ok, but when I put the horse model into photoshop to lighten it up a little, I noticed the red rune on it’s chest.  I remembered seeing a belt that looked just like it, and the outfit was complete!  Now I just need to actually level her so she can wear it!

Well, that is the end!  It was super-fun and I hope there’s something like it again soon.  Maybe a winter version!  Brb, working on my Ice Dancing outfit! LOL.

Mogolympics Week 2

Week 2 of Mogolympics has drawn to a close, and as expected, there was some fabulous mogs to be seen. This week we had the Wrestling, Archery, and Javelin events. There was quite a lot of throwing going on, between the javelin throwing, and contestants being thrown off of the docks in the wrestling event.  Congrats to all the medal winners this round!

The first event this week was Wrestling.  I was honored with a bronze medal for this cheeky guy.

The challenge for this event was to build a look around one of the “championship” belts.  This is one of the events I decided to take literally, and created a semi-pro wrestler man.

The second event was Archery, and this competition was fierce.

The challenge for this event was pretty straight-forward.  Build a look around your favorite bow.  I went back and forth a lot on this event, as far as which outfit to submit.

The last event was the Javelin throw.  I took a whopping 16th place!

The challenge here was to build a look around a polearm.  I had high hopes for this lady, but I guess her throwing arm just wasn’t up to snuff!

Next week are the last three events, Equestrian, Freestyle, and Fencing.  There is also going to be Closing Ceremony, and I can’t wait to see what JD and the others have up their sleeves for it!

Mogolympics In Full Swing!

**** Warning – if Orcs still give you nightmares about Draenor, and you think Troll’s toes are ugly, you may want to skip this post ****

With the opening ceremonies and 3 events under our belt, the Mogolympics is is full swing now! There were so many entrants, I am amazed at the work the judges are doing. I believe I counted 47 entrants! How they are keeping it all straight is beyond me!

To recap my first post,  I am representing the Lower City, and this fly guy is my flag bearer!

The events that have been held so far are Cycling, Hammer Throw, and Discus.  The judges have done a really great job doing write-ups of each event, so check out those links.  The contest as whole was a little difficult for me, as we could only use each race/gender combo once (flag bearer excepted).  I definitely learned some things look better on other races, and most things look better on Draenei, lol.  On to the recap!

The first event was the Cycling.  I was blown away to be chosen as the gold medal winner for the event, thanks to the judges for picking me!  I guess sometimes Orcs can be fly too… I guess…

The Cycling challenge was to build a biker outfit to compliment the Chopper out of leather or mail.  I went with more of a bike babe look, rather than a match the chopper look, and a lot of the other entrants did too.  She does compliment the tires rather well, I think 🙂

The second event was Hammer Throw.  From what I can tell, I landed in a 5-way tie for 5th place.

The Hammer Throw challenge was to build an outfit around your favorite two-handed hammer.  This outfit was especially challenging, as I really don’t like maces.  There are some that are ok, but I generally dislike them for reasons other than the look.  I can’t stand the hollow ‘donk’ sound that plays when you parry, or are parried using a mace.  The sound in my ears just makes me cringe at maces.  Anyhow!  I decided to just have fun with this one since there was no weapon I loved.  You can’t go wrong with a Draenei in pink!  Maybe you can…

The latest event held was the Discus event.  This one was a total wash for me, which is not surprising.  I’m guessing the judges were too busy staring at her weird two-toed feet.

The Discus event is pretty self-explanitory, but we did have a limited selection of shields to pick from for our outfit.  This was the last outfit I did for the competition, and I guess it came out looking that way.  I was going to go for one of the popular blue and gold looks, but chose something unusual instead.  I think it all ties into the shield fairly well, but perhaps those disco-striped Bogslayer Legs are just a bit too unusual 🙂

So, that’s the competition so far!  This week we have Wrestling, Javelin, and Archery still to be revealed.  My wrestler is pretty tongue-in-cheek, so I’m interested to see his placing.

Mogolympics!

Amateur Azerothian is hosting another great transmog contest called the Mogolympics.  They recently had an event called Mog Madness, a mog-based take on March Madness.  I missed entering that one by a couple of days, but I decided to throw my name in for the Mogolympics.  I was hesitant to enter at first, as one of their main rules is that for the 9 competition outfits, you have to use at least 5 races, and only one of each race/gender combo.  Oh, my poor, Draenei-loving heart!  How was I even going to take pictures of anything but Draenei (or blood elves, I might have some of those too)? Thanks to some tips from Kamalia on using the WoW Model Viewer, I figured I might as well give it a shot.  I’ve actually been having a lot of fun using the model viewer now that I got it figured out, so thanks again Kam!

The 9 competition outfits are based around Olympic events, but with an Azeroth twist:

  • Archery – Build an outfit around your favourite bow.
  • Cycling – Build a biker outfit to compliment the Chopper.  It must be either Leather or Mail.
  • Discus – Build an outfit around one of the shield skins seen here
  • Equestrian – Build an outfit to compliment one of the horse mounts in the game.  (Faction limitations apply, so no Orcs on a Stormwind pony)
  • Fencing – Time for some swordplay.  Build your best outfit around the 1h sword of your choice.
  • Javelin – Build an outfit around the polearm of your choice.
  • Hammer Throw – Build an outfit around your favourite two-handed hammer.
  • Wrestling – We’re going to deviate from olympic wrestling and go to the sports entertainment aspect instead.  Using one of the “championship” belts, design your own Azerothian pro wrestler.  Think of the oversized belts, such as the Firemend Cinch seen here.
  • Freestyle – Build your own NPC. Could be an innkeeper, could be the Green Orc Lantern.  Doesn’t matter.

Each entrant is also assigned a faction to represent.  We use this faction’s tabard for a 10th outfit, the “flagbearer”.  I was given Lower City to rep, and since this outfit doesn’t award a medal, I can share it with you now!
Head – Bloodspore Hood
Shoulders – Conjurer’s Mantle
Chest (hidden) – Green Woolen Vest
Lower City Tabard
Wrists – Conjurer’s Bracers
Hands – Hands of the Chosen
Belt – Dirtwood Belt
Legs – Hooligan’s Pantaloons
Feet – Lightheart Sandals (these don’t actually show up as anything on Draenei, hooray for hooves!)
The banner is an item in the model viewer,
but it is white, so I photoshopped the emblem in.  Thanks to Cymre at Bubbles of Mischief
for the idea!

If you’d like to enter the Mogolympics, visit Amateur Azerothean and leave a comment, or send them an e-mail.
