Random Mogness – Hunter Mogs

Between coming up with ideas for Mogolympics and pretty crappy RNG, I’ve been collecting quite a few outfits in my Mogit lists.  Since I can’t reveal my Mogolympics looks, and none of Drainee’s outfits are coming together, I though I’d just share some Mogit shots.

When I first made Drainee, long before transmog, I went with a white-on-white look.  She even traveled all the way to Dun Morogh at a very low level to tame a white pet, a Young Snow Leopard.  I was trying to put together this white look for her for a few weeks.  The pants drop off the Princess in Maraudon, and after a week or so of killing her without luck, I gave up.  I saw the BOE version of the pants on the AH once, but 1500g seemed like too much at the time, lol.

This second outfit is based around one of my favorite bows in the game, the Vengeful Gladiator’s Longbow.  I’ve got most of the pieces except the boots.  They drop from Kraator, a rare spawn in Shadowmoon Valley.  I’ve been camping him for almost as long as the Princess :/  I literally sit on my drake for hours, while tabbed out doing other stuff, in one of his spawn spots.  Then, I fly around a little looking for him, and check the AH for the boots.  I really admire Cymre and Euphyley for the time they spend on rare spawns.  I did see him once, but he dropped the cloth version of the boots… of course.

I’ve had this green and gold outfit in my Mogit list for a while now. I put it together based on the polearm after it dropped in a Black Temple Run.

This last outfit I put together recently.  It was originally for the Mogolympics Archery entry, but it looked too good on Drainee.  I’d already used a Draenei Female for another entry, and any other race just didn’t look as fly!

WoW Model Viewer Tips – How to Scale Shoulders

I love using Mogit, and it is my main resource for showing of mog sets.  Sometimes, though, you want to show of a mog on a different character than you might have.  Or, you want to mog six dwarves and a gnome to go with your Snow White! 🙂  This is where WoW Model Viewer comes in.  When I first started this blog, I messed around with the program some, but I was frustrated by the giant shoulders, and couldn’t figure out how to scale them down.  Once I found that button, the color of the shoulders kept changing, and that baffled me.  I wasn’t able to find a lot of help online either.  So, I gave up on model viewer for the time being.  Months later I was putting together a post that I really wanted to use white backgrounds on, like Kamalia does on her blog.  After some encouraging words from her, I decided to give model viewer another shot.  With the Mogolympics in full swing, I’ve put together this tutorial in hopes I can help someone else create awesome mog shots with normal-sized shoulders.

WoW Model Viewer can be downloaded from wowmodelviewer.org.  It is good to know that model viewer loads items and models from WoW’s program files, so you can’t run this program and the game at the same time.

Once you get the program installed, the first step is to get a character on your screen.  You can start with your own character by importing it from the armory.  From the Character menu, select ‘Import Armory Character’ and enter the link from battle.net for your character. Your character will with all her gear, not transmogged, and with the face and hair you’ve chosen in game.

You can also load a blank character using the File List on the left side of the screen.  Expand the ‘Character’ menu, then pick your race and gender.  This template can be customized using the controls on the right.  You can change skin color, hair style and color, and facial features.

When you’ve chosen your character, you can change the gear they are wearing with the buttons on the right.  Each button pulls up a List of all the items that go in that slot, on the left of the screen.  You can search by item name, or number.  When you select the item, it will show on your character.  If you don’t want an item in the slot, you can pick –None–.  As you can see, the shoulders are huge by default on Draenei, so let’s fix that.

First, you need to open the model control box.  In the View menu, select ‘Show model control’. This box should open somewhere on the left of your screen. Once that box is open, you can use the drop-down menu at the top to select the shoulder models. You will scale the left and right shoulders separately.  Using the Scale slider under the menu, move the little slider to the left until you are satisfied with the size of the shoulder.  As you can see below, I’ve scaled the left shoulder piece down, but it is showing a different color scheme than the purple I want.

To change the shoulder back to the correct color, you’re going to use the Animation box at the bottom of the screen.  The second drop-down menu has all the ‘skins’ listed that belong to your shoulder model.  This one only has 4, but some models have 20 or 30 skins.  I just click through them until the one I want shows up on my character.  After that, you can go back to the model control box, and repeat the process with the right shoulder.

Here’s Draynee with both shoulders and sword sized-down.  Once you have all your gear looking the way you want, you can play around the character’s animations.  First, go back to your model control box and pick the first model, in this case DraeneiFemale.m2.  Then, go back to the animation control screen at the bottom, and have fun!

This is the first tutorial I’ve ever written, so if you have any questions, let me know!

Fly Draenei Friday

Another edition of Fly Draenei Friday, featuring mog-spots from around Proudmore.  This week, a couple of levelers, looking fly on the way to 85.  I’ve mogged my share of heirloom gear, but these gals seem to be mogging regular leveling gear.  Talk about dedication!

Zepheira, looking lovely in Robes of the Battlegaurd

Yara is super fly for only level 27!

Lzzi, another mogging lowbie.

Xiilah, sitting pretty in a gold cloth set.

Clariðn, whose red and orange set
is very visually striking.

Limei, busy crafting something up
in Scarlet Sin’dorei Robes.

My Mage Mog: A Shoulder for All Specs

Wow, it’s been forever since I posted an outfit I’m actually wearing in game!  I feel like I’ve been trying to make these mage outfits work for just as long.  I get frustrated by the selection of cloth belts, and then just don’t post about them.  I’ve decided to just make the post, and then I can move on with my Mage’s life! Lol.  For a long time, Drayney was mogged into the Brutal Gladiator’s Regalia.  It was a quick and easy mog that I used in place of what I wished she was wearing: The Field Marshal’s Regalia.  That is such an awesome set, and I was pretty heartbroken the first day of transmog to find out I couldn’t use any of the pieces.  I truly hope they lift that restriction on day, because I have honestly never seen anyone, not even a level 60, in any of that pinky-purpley goodness.

Anyhow, enough of that sad story!  Here’s a spirit lifter: When I was farming for the staff for the ‘arcane’ version of this look, I finally got the Swift White Hawkstrider from Magister’s Terrace!  It’s the first rare mount in my collection, and I’m glad I went all the way to Kael’ everytime, even though the staff dropped off the second boss.

So, the idea I had going on here was using the same shoulder model in an outfit for all three mage specs.  I used the Arcanist Mantle, from the Mage Tier 1 set, and the red and blue recolors.  I’ll start with the ‘Arcane Mage’ version, using the original Arcanist Mantle.  I was a runner up in the last Proudmore WoW Factor show in this look.  It’s my favorite of the three, although I switched to the ‘Fire Mage’ set for the Midsummer Fire Festival.

Fire Mage:

Head – Cowl of the Grand Engineer

Shoulders – Mindrage Pauldrons

Chest – Simple Robe

Hands – Red Mageweave Gloves

Waist – Voidweave Cilice

Staff – Rod of the Blazing Light

I would prefer not to have a belt with this version. The dress already has the empire waist, so it’s like she’s wearing two belts! Perhaps Blizzard will take cue from the Acherus Knight’s Girdle, and make invisible belts for all armor classes! I’m going to cross my fingers for that, because the version below could use it too.

Frost Mage:

Head – Augural Shroud

Shoulders – Frozen Shadoweave Shoulders

Chest – Robes of the Exalted

Wrists – Wristguards of Subterranean Moss

Hands – Safegaurd Gloves

Waist – Replica Virtuous Belt

Staff (not shown) – Staff of Divine Infusion

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

snow white and seven dwarfsSleepy, Sneezy, Happy, Doc, Snow White, Bashful, Dopey, and Grumpy

I had so much fun with mogging Little Red Riding Hood, I’ve been trying to decide on another character to mog ever since.   I came up with this Snow White a while ago, but it didn’t really excite me until I realized I could mog the seven dwarves!  Well, six dwarves and one gnome, turns out WoW dwarves don’t come without beards.  I had lots of fun with WoW Model Viewer making all the guys and playing with poses.  It might be my new favorite mog program.

This outfit is a little cheating, as the top is a tabard and shirt combo.  The second outfit is an ok version, but I wasn’t really thrilled with it.

Wrist- Sage’s Bracers

Waist – Cincture of Woven Reeds

Legs – Cindercloth Pants

The top here is the Windchanneller’s Tunic, and the bottom is the Replica Virtuous Skirt.

I also made a “if Snow White was a ninja” outfit.  I know Draenei can’t currently wear leather, but oh well…

Mogolympics!

Amateur Azerothian is hosting another great transmog contest called the Mogolympics.  They recently had an event called Mog Madness, a mog-based take on March Madness.  I missed entering that one by a couple of days, but I decided to throw my name in for the Mogolympics.  I was hesitant to enter at first, as one of their main rules is that for the 9 competition outfits, you have to use at least 5 races, and only one of each race/gender combo.  Oh, my poor, Draenei-loving heart!  How was I even going to take pictures of anything but Draenei (or blood elves, I might have some of those too)? Thanks to some tips from Kamalia on using the WoW Model Viewer, I figured I might as well give it a shot.  I’ve actually been having a lot of fun using the model viewer now that I got it figured out, so thanks again Kam!

The 9 competition outfits are based around Olympic events, but with an Azeroth twist:

  • Archery – Build an outfit around your favourite bow.
  • Cycling – Build a biker outfit to compliment the Chopper.  It must be either Leather or Mail.
  • Discus – Build an outfit around one of the shield skins seen here
  • Equestrian – Build an outfit to compliment one of the horse mounts in the game.  (Faction limitations apply, so no Orcs on a Stormwind pony)
  • Fencing – Time for some swordplay.  Build your best outfit around the 1h sword of your choice.
  • Javelin – Build an outfit around the polearm of your choice.
  • Hammer Throw – Build an outfit around your favourite two-handed hammer.
  • Wrestling – We’re going to deviate from olympic wrestling and go to the sports entertainment aspect instead.  Using one of the “championship” belts, design your own Azerothian pro wrestler.  Think of the oversized belts, such as the Firemend Cinch seen here.
  • Freestyle – Build your own NPC. Could be an innkeeper, could be the Green Orc Lantern.  Doesn’t matter.

Each entrant is also assigned a faction to represent.  We use this faction’s tabard for a 10th outfit, the “flagbearer”.  I was given Lower City to rep, and since this outfit doesn’t award a medal, I can share it with you now!
Head – Bloodspore Hood
Shoulders – Conjurer’s Mantle
Chest (hidden) – Green Woolen Vest
Lower City Tabard
Wrists – Conjurer’s Bracers
Hands – Hands of the Chosen
Belt – Dirtwood Belt
Legs – Hooligan’s Pantaloons
Feet – Lightheart Sandals (these don’t actually show up as anything on Draenei, hooray for hooves!)
The banner is an item in the model viewer,
but it is white, so I photoshopped the emblem in.  Thanks to Cymre at Bubbles of Mischief
for the idea!

If you’d like to enter the Mogolympics, visit Amateur Azerothean and leave a comment, or send them an e-mail.

Fly Draenei Friday

Another edition of Fly Draenei Friday, featuring mog-spots from around Proudmore.

Xessia has been spotted before in
another outfit. This time she coordinates
great with Herod’s Shoulder.

Delacour, in the first use of a
city tabard I’ve seen.

Spacevixen, you know I love
a coordinated Guild Tabard!

Ariå, nice use of the Astralaan Robe
with the head and shoulders from this set.

Sêrênity, in a great purple-accent set.

Dêvoutlight, in Masquerade Gown
with the Virtuous Mantle.

Hurray for fly guys!  I spotted Ravakavius and Shadowtail in a
Frost Lord Ahune run. Oddly enough, they are both from Proudmore.

Transmog the Transmogrifier

When looking for transmog inspiration, NPC’s are a natural choice.  There are some great ones out there including Stormwind Guard, Orgrimmar Grunt, and Dark Ranger.  But, what about the guys that make the moggin’ possible?  Behold, the ethereals!

These guys have a really cool look going on.  Probably because they are made of purple light wrapped in bandages, but their clothes are neat too. So, here’s a few looks that capture the ‘feel’ of the transmogrifier, reforger and void storage guy.

First up, the transmogrifier guy! I tried to hit on his dark grey and purple color scheme and detailed skirt, along with flared out gloves, and of course, a hood! I normally don’t do helms in my outfits, but the cool hoods are what got me thinking about these mogs.

Warpweaver Hashom – Transmogrifier
mogger

“Mogger” mog, with a few priest-only pieces:

Head – Cowl of Absolution (priest only)

Shoulders – Soulstealer Mantle

Chest – Robes of Arugal

Hands – Savage Gladiator’s Mooncloth Gloves (priest only)

Waist – Clutch of Andros

Mace – Cudgel of Consecration

Off-hand – Temple Crystal Fragment

“Mogger” mog, sleeveless and all-classes version:

Head – Titan-Forged Hood of Dominance

Shoulders – Soulstealer Mantle

Chest – Necropile Robe

Hands – Bloodmage Gloves

Waist – Clutch of Andros

Mace – Cudgel of Consecration

Off-hand – Temple Crystal Fragment

mogger sleeveless2

Next, the reforger. He was a little more difficult as his coloring is a really light grey that doesn’t seem to appear much in existing gear.

Thaumaturge Rafir – Arcane Reforger
reforger grey

Reforger grey:

Head – Corp’rethar Ceremonial Crown

Shoulders – Necropile Mantle

Chest – Raiments of the Iron Council

Hands – Relentless Gladiator’s Mooncloth Gloves (priest only)

Waist – Highlander’s Cloth Girdle

Staff – Staff of Divine Infusion

Reforger white:

Head – Cowl of Benevolence

Shoulders – Soulstealer Mantle

Chest – Victor’s Robes

Hands – Safeguard Gloves

Waist – Astralaan Belt

Staff – Staff of Divine Infusion

reforger white

And finally, the void storage guy. This guy gave me a hard time, and I’m not 100% about the look, but I’ve tried so many pieces, I’m just gonna go with this one 🙂 Since there is no ‘sprakly purple ball’ main-hand weapon, I went with a sparkly spinny mace in it’s place

Vaultkeeper Razhid – Void Storage
void mog2

Head – Royal Headband

Shoulders – Necropile Mantle

Chest – any sleeveless chest will work here, I went with Black Silk Vest, and have theWound Dressing shirt on underneath as a nod to the ethereal’s wrappings

Hands – Truefaith Gloves

Waist – Master’s Belt

Legs – Pants of the Naaru

Feet – Silver-Thread Boots

Mace – Hammer of Atonement

Off-hand – Netherwing Spiritualist’s Charm
