Blizzard Store Transmog Helms – Cloth Mogs

Unless perhaps you’ve been under a rock, on vacation, or not playing WoW, you’ve surely heard the hullabaloo over the new items at the Blizzard Store.  Formerly a place to buy neato pets and mounts, they’ve now added 3 Cosmetic Armor Pieces you can spend your real-life gold on, and mog to your hearts’ content.  I have mixed feelings about these helms, they’re not really my style, and I think the price point is a little high.  I know everyone’s got quite an opinion on these things, and I won’t say either way if I support them being sold for money or not.  What I do support 100%, however, is the people who buy these and want to wear them.

There’s a rumor going around Twitter that some poor chap got kicked from LFR, and the reason in people’s boxes was that he was wearing one of these store helms.  To make it worse, the ‘rumor’ (I can’t speak to it’s truth as I wasn’t there) was started by some pretty high-profile podcasters who were making fun of this person.  This blog is not usually a place where I voice strong opinions, but without a doubt, my opinion of this situation is that it is asinine and unacceptable.

I’ve got a lot more to say about this, but I will digress and get to the pretty pictures.  In short, transmog is as much a form of self-expression as what class you play, and NO-ONE (not even you, Mr. Worgen DK in purple judgement) deserves to be publicly made fun of for what they choose to mog into.  So rock on, kid who got kicked from LFR, and comfort yourself in the thought that the gear you wanted wasn’t going to drop from that run anyways, and you were better off with another group 🙂

So ANYWAYS, here’s some cloth mogs I put together for the 3 helms.  If I’m feeling funky-fresh, I might do some of the other armors too!

This first helm you may have seen with the blue skull face effect.  I had no idea that was just an animation until I saw Mogoholic’s post about the helm.  It’s a pretty neat looking crown in still form!

Head – Crown of Eternal Winter

Shoulders – Valorous Shoulderpads of Sanctification (Priest)

Chest – Mooncloth Robe

Hands – San’layn Ritualist Gloves

Waist – Mindfire Waistband

This helm kinda scares me.  Those red eyes in the black, it’s like what you’d see if you said ‘Bloody Draenei’ in front of a mirror in dark 12 times.  BOO! /shudders

This helm is serious about its horns.  Please be careful not to put an eye out if you’re mogging this one.  Unless, that’s your intention… and the target is an orc… named Garrosh…

Head – Jewel of the Firelord

Shoulders – Firehawk Mantle (Mage)

Chest – Robe of the Waking Nightmare

Tabard of the Achiever

Hands – Sanctified Bloodmage Gloves

Waist – Embereye Belt

Umlauts over at Mog’s Addiction did a pretty awesome plate mog for this one, so check that out too!

P.S. You can scope out the helms for yourself on the Blizzard Store.

  1. Okay these are great mogs that complement the helms! Didn’t know the frost one was an effect, though. If that had been a little more publicized, I’m sure more people would’ve grabbed that one! (In fact now I think I might find something to go with it…)

And about the LFR story – yeah let’s just say that the guy who thought up this story because he has this big raging hard-on for hating Blizzard over the helms really made it believable. So much that I’ve heard that single story everywhere now. But I’m more inclined to believe that people are ready to spread that story simply to add to the hype effect that the helms are “bad”. People will give their knee-jerk reaction and move on and the helms will be forgotten in a month…

    • Thanks Khalior! I had a feeling the story was too ridiculous to be true. I think people are inclined to spread the story to illustrate how “bad” LFR is too. I have generally pleasant experiences in there myself, lol! What I really found offending was the people making fun of the supposed LFR-rejectee for buying the helm at all :/ Yeah, in a month or two, people who missed this hater wave will be trying to figure out where to farm the helms!

  2. I would probably buy the frost one if it was just the crown and not the effect. Or, I’m not sure… The pricing seems a bit weird to me. I think they could improve sales, reputation of the helms and perhaps even profit if they were cheaper.

The LFG-story is very toxic. I would never agree on a kick with that reasoning, and I probably would have been vocal about it. Might as well lure out the asshats so I can put them on ignore, right? 🙂

    • The pricing is odd, it’s the cost of a month’s sub here. So many people have said they would pay that for all three.

The story is pretty bad, and it just feeds worse LFR behavior. I almost didn’t want to post about it, but I did want to support the helm-wearing peeps out there 🙂

  3. Lovely sets, all of them! I particularly like the Firelands shoulders with the fire hat — very appropriate! There’s a non-class-specific equivalent of those shoulders, the Mantle of Closed Doors, a drop from Baleroc.

How did you get those helms to show up in MogIt? I can’t seem to find them.

    • Thanks Kam! I thought there was a look-alike for the shoulders, but for some reason they weren’t showing up on my MogIt :/

I got the helms in MogIt by using Add Item in the Preview window, and entering the item ID (it’s the numbers at the end of the wowhead link).

    • Ah, thanks! 😀

  4. Ouch, fortunately when Aellin ran LFR with her set and purchased helm she made it through unscathed. She went with the Firelord’s Jewel to go with her gold, red, and magenta set. The timing was perfect, since she had just finished the Shado Pan exalted reputation when these helms hit the scene. At $15, it was hard to choose one. I agree with most that $5 each or $15 set of 3 would have been amazing.

The sets you have made from them are great, and I’ve had a number using the icy crown pass through Mog’s Addiction. Blizzard is definately onto something, feeding us tasting, albeit expensive, mogging morsels.

The only way I’ve found to get it into a mogit window is to CTRL right-click it into the preview pane. However, using the import option may work with a wowhead link. I haven’t tried that yet. :p

    • Thanks Umlaut! I hope they hear us all and reduce the price on any mog pieces they decide to add in the future.
